RATING: 90/100
My first thought when "Pride" has closed this live performance by Magenta was: "wow, this is the first time I watch a gig on TV from start to finish without skipping any tracks.
That's enough to understand both my personal rating of "The Gathering" and the overall high potential of this great band.
Let's start with the technical details: beautiful packaging, impressive video quality, clear sound and a rich bonus footage featuring an interview to "mastermind" Rob Reed, an interview to Christina Booth, the video-clip of "Broken" and some comments of the audience.
It's hard to say how much this almost technical perfection helped the musical contents, but I'm pretty sure that this live performance is really involving and the track-list alternates so well long suites with shorter and acoustic tracks.
Magenta's repertoire is really wonderful but the Robert Reed / Chris Fry performances are even better, although I would have played more tracks from "Seven" album. Anyway, my favourites are undoubtely "Gluttony", "Children Of The Sun", "Genetesis", "The White Witch" , "Pride" and the previously unreleased "Demons" (but it will find a "Home" very soon ..)
Finally, what can I say about Christina Booth that I've never said before ? Maybe lovely presence on stage and superlative, clean and refined voice.
I've never recommended so much a musical Dvd as "The Gathering" by Magenta. Please, draw your conclusions !!
