INTRODUCTION |
"Concatenations" is the second album by this four-piece from Atlanta. The four core-members play conventional instruments like guitar, bass, keyboards and percussion but they're also supported by some guest musicians playing violin, flute, sitar and by two speaking femal-voices. |
SOUNDS LIKE ... |
Basically ambient music, created by using psichedelic and guitar oriented space-rock (Ozric Tentacles' music is the main influence in the first few tracks). In the second half the atmospheres are softer, more descriptive and romantic. |
POINTS OF INTEREST |
Although it's basically ambient music you must not think of groundless and boring music. All the themes have a full substance and musicians know so well how to embroider with their instruments. Violin, flute and sitar give a more than welcomed ethnic and folk vibe to music. |
WEAK POINTS |
When the band tries to build a more conventional song with lyrics and a chorus (see "Live In The Lizards"), the result is absolutely not bad but less impressive, in my opinion. Besides "Big Bend" is another strong track, but it's quite similar to "Invisible Sun" by The Police, isn't it ?? |
FAVOURITE TRACKS |
"Whitewater" "Too Clever by Half" "The Grey Neighbours" "Dry Land" |
RECOMMENDATION |
"Concatenations" currently is an exciting listening experience for me and I'm deeply loving the way Z-Axis created refined and well-played themes. Maybe because it's quite far from my personal music tastes, this album is the living proof that good music is only good music. Yes, Recommended !!! |
