Consigliato.
Solar Project is a german band existing since 1990. "Force Majeure" is the sixth one and I listened to their music for the first time. Both themselves and critics describe their music as a wonderful blend of athmospheric art rock with floydian influences and I must subscribe this common point of view. However the first track "Days Of Wrath" disppointed me and made me so confused: it's an electronic pop song (a-la Kraftwerk), not so inspired and so far from the thing I waited from them. Where are the floydian vein? And the good inspiration? There's something wrong in all this. Well, the album is not over and with the following "Thunderstorm" the bill is starting to be right. Thirty minutes of great music, divided into seven parts (from track 2 to 8) sometimes meditative, sometimes stronger that show an impressive songwriting by the six guys. The twenty minutes of "Force Majeure (from track 9 to 12) are even better: the ninth and tenth track deserve my deep recommendation as the most floydian (or a-la Porcupine Tree) songs in the album. In any case my favourite is the track 12 : distorted guitars and keyboards keep the tension so high and , in the final part, the melodic lines get softened. The final "War" is ruled by a mellow acoustic guitar and a sax solo; the epilogue is an anthemic growing of emotions to listen with your lighter on (it reminded me "Cath The Rainbow" by the eponymous band .. doesn't it??).
On the back side of the cd you can find the finger-prints of all the Solar Project members, so you can recognize with any doubt the authors of this very good spacey-art-ecologistic piece of work. I'm still running to get their previous ones…. Recommended.
