- Ricordo perfettamente
il mini cd d'esordio dei Ricocher, quel "Quest For The Heartland"
uscito nel 2000 che mi piacque molto e che pose le giuste premesse per una
produzione discografica di qualità. Dopo due anni, la band olandese
del simpatico tastierista John Van Heugten, mantiene la promessa e sforna
questo "Cathedral Of Emotions" all'insegna della continuità
stilistica ovvero di un rock progressivo romantico abbastanza disimpegnato
e se volete banale (sulla scia dei soliti maestri Marillion, Pendragon et
similia) che costringe chi vi si cimenta a tirare sempre fuori dagli strumenti
i giri melodici giusti. Anche questa volta i Ricocher ci sono riusciti molto
bene. L'architettura dei brani ruota quasi sempre attorno alle parti di
tastiere, che sono le assolute protagoniste nel disegnare i vari motivi
portanti, ben sorretti dalla precisione e dalla pulizia del chitarrismo
di Bart van Helmond sia in fase di accompagnamento che solista.
L'album nel complesso esibisce un' ottima qualità media delle composizioni
che si mantiene sufficientemente costante: è inutile dilungarsi sulla
descrizione del singolo brano, decantandone le indubbie qualità ma
mi preme comunque sottolineare i momenti più riusciti del lavoro,
cominciando dall'iniziale "Haunted By Dreams", la superlativa
title-track, "Fugitive" e "Live Your Life".
Spero che abbiate capito che ascoltare i Ricocher non significa certo scoprire
l'acqua calda, quanto piuttosto saggiare le capacità compositive
di una band che in campo neo-prog romantico non ha nulla da invidiare a
nessuno. Raccomandato.

released a mini-cd called "Quest For The Heartland" in 2000 and
I liked it very much. After two years the full-lenght cd is finally out:
it's called "Cathedral Of Emotions" and I think It's even better.
It sounds in the same way, that is a refined romantic progressive rock in
the vein of the masters of this genre, Marillion, Pendragon and so on…
Everyone who decide to play this kind of music knows very well the mistakes
to avoid: it is necessary to have an high-quality songrwriting always finding
the right tunes and melodies. Otherwise the album could sound boring and
trivial.
Don't worry! Ricocher really knows how to write a good song: it's always
built around the wonderful keys of John van Heugten, well supported by the
guitars played by Bart van Helmond. It's unuseful to describe each song
but it's right to underline the extreme beauty of the opener "Haunted
By Dreams", the superlative title-track, "Fugitive" and "Live
Your Life". Romanticism, emotions, skilled musicians: that's you'll
find inside Ricocher's cathedral.
I hope you understand what I meant: listening to Ricocher music doesn't
mean to find hot water but to prove the high-quality songwriting of a band
who lose nothing in comparison with anybody in the land of romantic neo-progressive.
