Ceca, la Crystal production, sta promuovendo con molta energia le formazioni
della sua scuderia: dopo il buon folk-metal degli Euthanasia, tocca al doom-death
metal dei R.E.T (leggasi Reaction Extasy Trance).
Sebbene i R.E.T. possano essere agevolmente catalogati in un ambito death-doom
metal (ricordiamo che il disco è dedicato a Quorthon … ve lo
ricordate ??) devo ammettere che il disco nel complesso non è così
inascoltabile come mi sarei aspettato alla vigilia. In ciascun brano è
presente un tappeto orchestrale in sottofondo creato artificialmente dalle
tastiere che rende molto più digeribili i riff pesanti e distorti
della chitarra elettrica, nonché la voce catarrosa di Yarin Kay Querry
che ricorda vagamente quella di Lemmy.
Il gruppo evidenzia discrete potenzialità quando cerca di creare
un suono più vario e contaminato che però si concretizza solo
sporadicamente in qualcosa di veramente costruttivo: "Downfall"
è uno di questi casi dove i RET non si limitano ad abbozzare una
melodia ben definita ma la sviluppano addirittura con apprezzabile disinvoltura.
Va però detto che questo episodio è forse l'unico a prendere
le distanze dal death-metal imperante in favore di un heavy metal un po'
più convenzionale ed assimilabile. Per questo motivo, anche "System
of Salavation" si attesta su discreti livelli compositivi.
Tutto il resto invece (compresa "Eternal Enemy" di cui trovate
un video come traccia multimediale) spiega chiaramente il motivo della dedica
al leader dei Bathory riportata nel booklet e quindi tutte le considerazioni
tendenzialmente positive fatte in precedenza vanno lette unicamente come
un apprezzabile sforzo di estrarre il salvabile da un contesto in verità
del tutto privo di interesse per il sottoscritto.

production is making a wide promotion of their own bands: after the good
folk metal effort by Euthanasia, now is the turn of another band from Czech
Republic called R.E.T (Reaction Extasy Trance).
Few minutes of the first track are enough to realize they play a death-doom
metal that has never been my cup of tea: but, despite of this, I didn't
find this album so unlistenable as previously expected. Each track has a
pleasant orchestral carpet in the foreground artificially created by the
keyboards; this makes more digestible both the heavy and distorted guitar
riffs and the disturbing voice of Yarin Kay Querry (try to imagine a cross
between Lemmy and Quorthon).
These guys seem to have a good potential when they try to create a more
various and contaminated sound: it's a pity it happens in few exeptional
cases.
"Downfall" is not a bad song maybe because it's more a conventional
heavy metal track; also "System of Salavation" is not so hard
to swallow for me. The rest (including "Eternal Enemy" whose you
find also a multimedia video track) explains the reason why "The End
At The End Of The Tunnel" is an album dedicated to Quorthon, the leader
of Bathory.
I didn't like Bathory, so why R.E.T should ?
