INTRODUCTION |
No Rules is a new Swedish band though it was born in autumn of 2004 as a solo-project of Tommy Magnusson. Then drummer Martin Nilsson and singer Olof Gustavsson came in to complete the current line-up. "Where We Belong" seems like a demo cd even if swedish label Record Heaven is distribuiting it. |
SOUNDS LIKE ... |
They feel themselves inspired from bands like Journey, Asia, Dream Theater, Genesis, Black Sabbath, Saga, Camel, Yes and Marillion. I agree with them about some of them only. Where are Genesis, Camel and Marillion influences ? The sound is quite varied (they just chose the name "No Rules" for this reason) ranging from epic hard-rock and melodic Aor. I also heard some hints of Magnum. |
POINTS OF INTEREST |
It's a pleasant album to listen to, without very few weak tracks. The wonderful title-track could be a good reason to know the great potentialities of this band. It's dynamic and epic just like german bands of the eighties. |
WEAK POINTS |
Most of the tracks seem half-cut. Some of them could have been developed much wider. Besides the recording is not so brilliant. |
FAVOURITE TRACKS |
"After
The War" "Where We Belong" "Dreams" "Cradle in The Sand" |
RECOMMENDATION |
No Rules gave us a good demonstration of fine and varied writing and also of good skills. I hope they will improve some technical problems for the future releases. |
