Ho sempre ascoltato ed apprezzato molto quest’album dei tedeschi Neuschwanstein, chiedendomi ogni volta da dove diavolo avessero preso un nome così insolito e dalla difficile pronuncia. Quando poi ho deciso di recensire "Battlement" non mi sono più potuto sottrarre ad una dettagliata ricerca di informazioni: senza tediarvi con inutili cenni storici, ho scoperto che Neuschwanstein è il nome di uno splendido castello fatto erigere in Baviera da Ludovico II intorno al 1869 e che conserva tuttora un alone di mistero proprio in relazione a colui che ne ordinò la costruzione e vi dimorò fino alla sua tragica morte.

Ma esiste un castello senza la sua leggenda?? Paradossalmente si trovano più notizie sul castello che sulla band in questione: l’album è del 1978, è l’unica testimonianza che ci hanno saputo regalare ed è anche per questo che viene universalmente considerato un vero gioellino di progressive rock.

All’interno delle 7 tracce che compongono l’album troviamo reminiscenze soprattutto dei Genesis era-Gabriel, melodie armoniose e fluide dominate da tappeti di tastiere e dal flauto che fa spesso capolino. Le parti vocali sono cantate con un ottimo inglese e richiamano a più riprese il timbro di Peter Gabriel anche se non sempre si dimostrano all’altezza.

Ogni singolo episodio vive di luce propria e propone soluzioni melodiche più o meno complicate, sempre diverse ed estremamente appaganti, a tal punto che riesce difficile ascoltare l’album come sottofondo senza che l’attenzione venga ripetutamente catturata ed altrettanto difficile mi riesce segnalarvi i brani migliori.

Gustate l’album dall’inizio alla fine come se fosse un buon gelato a Ferragosto e lasciatevi trasportare passivamente dalle morbide onde della musica dei Neuschwanstein. Hall Of Fame..

I have always listened and appreciated this album of the german Neuschwanstein, every time asking myself which could be the meaning of that unusual name. I only took informations when I decided to review "Battlement".

Well, I don’t want to bore you with deep historical news, so I’ll simply tell you Neuschwanstein is the name of a beautiful castle in Baviera built by Ludwig II around 1869 where legends and mystery tales still lives on. The album was recorded in 1978 and after that the band unfortunately split up. It’s strongly influenced by Genesis (Gabriel-era) and full of keyboards carpets and sweet flute breaks.

Every single song is a little gem so it’s difficult for me to find the best songs. High quality music for a great band that shouldn’t have splitted so early.
