- Ho conosciuto e profondamente
apprezzato la musica dei Nemo ascoltando "Presages", il loro secondo
lavoro realizzato nel 2003. Ciò è avvenuto con qualche mese
di ritardo rispetto alla sua uscita e quasi in concomitanza con la stampa
del loro ultimo album "Prelude a la ruine". Avevo cioè
appena terminato l'ascolto e la digestione (in verità immediata ed
agevole) del primo che, a distanza di pochi giorni e con l'entusiasmo alle
stelle, mi sono buttato a capofitto sul secondo.
Ebbene, "Prelude…" è innanzitutto un disco differente
da "Presages", seppur non dal punto di vista del suo inquadramento
stilistico, che era e rimane un progressive metal molto originale dalle
intelligenti colorazioni jazz e contaminazioni sinfoniche. Piuttosto, in
"Presage" erano presenti elementi che, mio malgrado, in "Prelude.."
non ho più ritrovato: per esempio gli mancano la freschezza e l'istintività
delle trame chitarristiche che sono meno imprevedibili ed appariscenti.
Ed ancora, la vena jazz e la genialità delle tastiere di Guillaime
Fontaine che in "Presages" si manifestavano in intermezzi strumentali
deliziosi ed assolutamente unici, qui sono solamente accennate in "Les
temps modernes", nella title-track, e nella suite che chiude l'album
"Le monde à l'envers" che comunque, da sola, giustifica
ampiamente l'acquisto dell'album. Questo non significa che siamo di fronte
ad un passo falso dei cinque ragazzi francesi, che anche in "Eve et
la genie du mal" solleticano il palato più morbido dei loro
fans con un brano lento molto bello e toccante.
Quanto di negativo detto, quindi, non modifica l'enorme stima che nutro
nei confronti dei Nemo, un gruppo di cui il progressive metal aveva assolutamente
bisogno per evitare un'appiattimento che sembrava ormai conclamato.
Consigliato si, ma meno caldamente di quanto feci per "Presages".
- Even if I'm not a good
singer, I recently sang Nemo's praises after having listened (a little bit
in late) to their second album "Presages" released in 2003. I
had just finished listening to it that their new album "Prelude a la
ruine" came out.
Well, first of all, I must say the new album is quite different from "Presages",
though not from the musical point of view.
The music style is always a so original and exciting progressive metal with
jazzy and symphonic touches but "Presages" had some beautiful
elements I couldn't find here anymore. I mean, the guitar playing is not
so unforseeable and fresh; then the Guillaime Fontaine's incredible jazz
vein and overall creativity are only looked like here. "Les temps modernes",
the title-track, "Eve et la genie du mal" and the final suite
"Le monde à l'envers" are the songs where the rightest
Nemo's attitude is still alive, and, believe me, these mentioned tracks
are enough to justify the purchase.
All in all, "Prelude a la ruine" is not a false move by the five
french guys: it's a recommendable album, but not so strongly as "Presages"
was.
