- Eccolo !!! E' "Kaleidoscope"
dei canadesi Karcius e forse ci siamo !! Giusto qualche settimana fa mi
stavo chiedendo quando sarebbe arrivato il disco "folgorante",
il cui ascolto (anche solo il primo !!) ti fa sobbalzare sulla sedia e che
la produzione discografica datata 2006 non mi aveva ancora regalato. In
realtà il sentore che questo disco sarebbe stato seriamente accreditato
a questo titolo era giunto solo pochi mesi fa dalla bellezza del loro esordio
ristampato dalla Unicorn Digital.
Il loro jazz-prog-fusion strumentale con tendenze metal ha colpito ancora
nel segno con una prova maiuscola di tecnica, sensibilità e scrittura
raffinata. Non c'è una nota fuori posto e quasi mai neanche una porzione
di album che non chieda a gran voce di essere riascoltata.
La parte del leone la fanno soprattutto le evoluzioni chitarristiche di
Simon L'Espérance e l'accoppiata pianoforte/tastiere di Mingan Sauriol:
i due non sgomitano mai, ognuno si ritaglia alternativamente il suo spazio
solista e quando c'è convivenza l'integrazione è quasi perfetta.
Simon è l'anima più cervellotica in fase di assolo e più
robusta in fase ritmica mentre Mingan quella più rilassata e raffinata
che fa da contrappeso.
Entrare nel merito delle otto tracce è operazione superflua: cito
per dovere di cronaca il trittico "Hypothèse A, B e C"
distribuito in maniera equidistante lungo il disco, "Tunnel" ed
"Epilogue", quest'ultima dotata di un irresistibile ritmo spagnoleggiante
per chitarra acustica e pianoforte.
L'unico (e veramente unico) episodio sottotono è "A-0-14",
a mio parere un po' troppo rumoristica nelle parti di chitarra.
Insomma, un disco avvincente, stracolmo di piccoli particolari da notare
ed apprezzare gradualmente ascolto dopo ascolto. Un must nel suo genere
ma anche un possibile oggetto del desiderio di qualsivoglia appassionato
di musica colta e nello stesso tempo fruibile. Senza fiato !
- Here It is !! It's
"Kaleidoscope" by canadian band Karcius and maybe we have what
it takes !! Just few weeks ago I was asking myself when I could have met
the so-called "striking" album because year 2006 hadn't offered
yet.
After a so good debut like "Sphere", Karcius' hits the mark again
with an impressive instrumental blend of jazz, prog and fusion with metal
tastes; a great performance made of skillness, feeling and refined writing.
Both Simon L'Espérance (guitar) and Mingan Sauriol (piano and keyboards)
play the part of lion: each one takes his corner for the solo's and when
they dialogue each other the integration is perfect. Simon is the bizarre
and hard soul of the band while Mingan is the most relaxed and refined:
the trade-off is heavenly perfect.
Talking deeply about the eight tracks is needless, but I must mention the
three episodes "Hypothèse A, B e C", fairly distribuited
all along the album, as well as "Tunnel" and "Epilogue",
the latter gifted with an irresistible spanish rhythm by acoustic guitar
and piano. The only weak track is "A-0-14", due to the uninteresting
and too noisy guitar lines.
"Kaleidoscope" is all in all a riveting album, full of small details
to realize and appreciate gradually; an actual must-have of this genre but
even a great purchase of any cultured music lover.
