- Provenienti dallo Spazio
e scesi sulla terra un paio di anni fa' con la pretesa di riportare lo space-rock
ai fasti di un tempo, gli svedesi (ovviamente solo d'adozione) FBFOS hanno
pubblicato un interessante disco d'esordio .. a cui fa ora seguito questo
nuovissimo "Impressionable Sound of The Subsonic" sempre per la
medesima etichetta.
La loro colonizzazione terrestre continua imperterrita proseguendo stilisticamente
ciò che era stato solo interrotto, all'insegna quindi di uno stoner
rock grezzo, psichedelico e spaziale di notevole fattura.
"Novaja Zemelja" è una grande apertura: introduzione atmosferica
con lamenti neonato e poi il brano prende forma in maniera esplosiva con
un ritmo trascinante, basso pompato e chitarra pungente. Ogni tanto fa capolino
il flauto nelle pause che il brano si concede. Senza un secondo di pausa
parte la successiva "Utan att veta" che si attesta sempre sugli
stessi livelli qualitativi.
Talvolta i FBFOS sono più scolastici nel riprendere gli stilemi del
genere, come in "Mean Spacemachine", un discreto brano alla Hawkwind
con tentazioni quasi rock'n'roll nel finale ma senza il guizzo veramente
vincente.
Tuttavia quando è il turno della title-track, assistiamo a dieci
minuti di paradiso musicale: nella prima metà l'arpeggio acustico
di chitarra ed il flauto morriconiano sono un trionfo di melodia che poi
si trasforma in un crescendo hard-prog.
Infine un'ultima citazione è doverosa per l'ottima "Grona hander",
forse il loro manifesto programmatico in quanto racchiude in sé sia
l'anima hard grezza che quella più psichedelica e space-rock.
Direi che il buonissimo esordio è stato confermato e forse anche
superato sia in termini di scrittura che per una maggior varietà
ed equilibrio dei suoni. Ciò che piuttosto mi spaventa è il
titolo dell'ultimo brano, ovvero "Mission Completed": significa
forse che la loro missione sulla Terra è terminata e adesso se ne
tornano nello spazio ? Spero di no perché i FBFOS sono dannatamente
bravi !!!!
- Landed on earth about
two years ago aiming to bring the real space-rock attitude, the swedish
(only adopted of course) FBFOS had released an interesting debut album,
followed now by this new "Impressionable Sound of The Subsonic"
under the same label.
The music style is, more or less, the same of the previous album, that is
a spacey, psychedelic and raw stoner-rock. Again, this second album impressed
me a lot.
"Novaja Zemelja" is a bright opening: after a quiet and atmospheric
intro, the track takes shape thanks to a breathtaking rhythm, a pumping
bass and a rough guitar. Sometimes the track slows down and a mellow flute
comes out. Great stuff !
"Utan att veta" follows without interruption and groove is the
same.
"Mean Spacemachine" is a quite good track a-la Hawkwind with some
rock'n'roll elements. Everything is good here but it lacks of deep inspiration.
The title-track is instead pure heaven: ten impressive minutes ranging from
quiet acoustic moments (with some Ennio Morricone relations) to a hard-rock
crescendo at the end.
Finally, "Grona hander" is, in my opinion, the most suggested
song if you want to know the actual FBFOS essence.
Well, I think the very good debut album released two years ago has been
confirmed and maybe surpassed both from the writing and sounding points
of view.
But I'm a little bit scarred by the title of the final song, "Mission
Completed": maybe does it mean their mission on earth is completed
? Will they come back to outer space ? Hope not, 'cause they're damn' good
!!
