- I Clearland
sono una nuova band costituita da Nikolay Raikov alla voce e da Konstantin
Jambazov alle chitarre, basso e tastiere ed, in aggiunta, Peter Petrov alla
batteria ma come membro non ufficiale. Con questa formazione si affacciano
sul mercato discografico con "Gift From Time" il loro debutto
discografico inciso per la Ubp. L'introduzione mi pare esaustiva anche se
ho volutamente tralasciato il fatto che siano nati e cresciuti in Bulgaria
perché è un particolare tanto irrilevante quanto inutile per
descrivere la loro musica. Si, perché vi assicuro che nulla traspare
della Bulgaria od in generale dell'est europa nella loro musica. Si definiscono
un melodic hard rock duo ed infatti esibiscono un rock melodico di matrice
americana che riprende pedissequamente le sonorità di gruppi come
Foreigner, Planet 3 e Chicago. Più che riprenderle, sembrano riproporle
pari pari senza aggiungere nulla (ma proprio nulla) di personale e forse
è questo l'unico difetto di un album che è comunque ricco
di melodie vincenti, equilibrate e molto efficaci. Il caso più eclatante
è presente in "I Keep Trying" dove siamo ad autentici livelli
di plagio nei confronti di " I Don't Want To Live Without You "
dei Foreigner. "Feel The World" e "Temptation" sono
brani perfetti, forse addirittura troppo, con tutti gli ingredienti al posto
giusto per un prodotto made in U.S.A: ritornelli ariosi, voce ultramelodica
senza difetti di accento ed assoli di chitarra rotondi e spesso virtuosi
come in "The Way To Love You More" e "Keep Spirits High"
dove Konstantin Jambazov raggiunge velocità e precisione di Y.J.
Malmsteen. Chiude l'album "Bohemian Rhapsody" dei Queen in una
versione interamente strumentale ed abbastanza particolare.
Se alla vostra collezione manca un disco di hard rock/Aor americano ma concepito
e registrato in Bulgaria, sappiate che da "Gift From Time" avrete
la tranquiliità di un acquisto senza brutte sorprese.

"Gift From Time" is their first album under UBP label. I deliberately
didn't mention the country they come from (Bulgaria) because it's an useless
detail to describe their music. Yes, nothing of Bulgaria or eastern Europe
betrays from "Gift Of Time". They play an american melodic rock
so close to Usa champions of the past as Foreigner, Planet 3 and Chicago,
without adding anything more. Need an example? "I Keep Trying"
is musically almost identical to Foreigner's "I Don't Want To Live
Without You". Also the singing here seems made by Lou Gramm. Of course,
this is the main lack of the album, though all the tracks have winning melodies
and very good choruses. "Feel the World" and "Temptation"
reach a five stars quality, 'cause everything is in the right place in the
right moment just like a product made in U.s.a. Nikolay Raikov's voice has
no bulgarian accent and Konstantin Jambazov's guitar playing is clean and
sometimes so fast reminding me Y.J. Malmsteen skillness (listen to "The
Way To Love You More" and "Keep Spirits High"). The final
track is a quite interesting instrumental cover of Queen's "Bohemian
Rhapsody".
If your cd collection lacks of an american hard rock/Aor album but concepted
and recorded in Bulgaria, "Gift Of Time" can be a purchase without
regrets. No doubt !!
