- A distanza di due anni
dall'uscita del loro ultimo Dvd "Were You There?", ormai da tempo
irreperibile, la Metalmind pubblica questo "A Moment In Time"
che cattura l'esibizione degli Anathema in occasione del Metalmind festival
dello scorso marzo. L'adagio di Albinoni come introduzione è decisamente
in sintonia con la musica proposta dal gruppo inglese e ci permette subito
di saggiare le capacità del quartetto d'archi (due violini, viola
e violoncello) che il gruppo inglese si è portato con sé in
tournee ma che nel corso dell'esibizione non darà - ahimé
un apporto così determinante.
Va detto che gli Anathema trasportano bene sul palcoscenico il pathos, il
disagio esistenziale e la malinconia che emergono nei dischi in studio e
su cui il gruppo ha costruito la propria identità; una formula che
piace perché è un susseguirsi di atmosfere malinconiche, tese,
depresse che trovano poi il loro sfogo rabbioso e liberatorio.
La partenza è subito di grande effetto con la coppia "Shroud
Of False" e "Fragile Dreams", peccato che l'audio non sia
proprio limpido ed i bilanciamenti non cosi' perfetti; la speranza che poi
migliori viene purtroppo tradita dale successive "Balance" e "Closer".
In generale la scaletta dei brani è buona ed in grado di soddisfare
il fan storico del gruppo, anche se mi sorge qualche dubbio sulla scelta
del materiale più recente. Ottima comunque "Natural Disaster",
nel corso della quale Lee xx raggiunge Vincent sul palco per un duetto vocale
di grande intensità.
Le riprese sono tutto sommato buone anche se le inquadrature indugiano un
po' troppo su Vincent, John ed il quartetto.
Il materiale bonus è abbastanza standardizzato, con i soliti wallpaper
ed un'intervista (anch'essa dall'audio pessimo) in inglese senza sottotitoli
in italiano. L'unico bonus degno di questo nome è l'estratto dal
concerto del 2004 con quattro canzoni dalla qualità audio finalmente
all'altezza.
Nel complesso "A Moment In Time" è un prodotto discreto,
ma non indispensabile se non siete fan sfegatati del gruppo inglese.
- After two years since
the release of the Dvd "Were You There?, out of print and no more available,
the polish label Metalmind comes out with this new live Dvd called "A
Moment In Time" catching the Anathema show during the Metalmind festival
in Poland on March 2006.
From the musical point of view the live performance is quite satisfactory:
it features all the best tracks that each Anathema fan would listen to,
that are "Shroud Of False", "Fragile Dreams", "Balance",
"Closer" and "Natural Disaster".
The band has a good live dimension where they're able to carry all the pathos,
the uneasiness and melancholy coming from their studio albums. This a formula
that all the fans proved to love deeply.
From the technical point of view my impression is not as good: the video
quality is not excellent as well as the sound quality, but the pass-mark
is guaranteed, don't worry !!
The bonus footage is as standard for these kind of products: some wallpapers,
an interview with the band (the sound is not excellent again) and an interesting
extract of four songs from a previous Anathema 2004 show in Poland. Here
the quality is really better at last, both sound and video.
Although there are some weak points to detect, "A Moment in Time"
is all in all a good product for a die-hard fan.
